tips_and_updates Fix It Yourself

Try these steps before calling. They resolve the majority of common AT&T issues.

1

Check for outages in the myAT&T app first

Before calling, open the myAT&T app and check Service → Network Status. If AT&T shows an outage in your area, calling won't speed up repair — the outage resolves when AT&T technicians fix the infrastructure. Check the estimated restoration time in the app.

2

Restart your AT&T gateway the right way

Unplug the AT&T gateway from the wall power outlet (not from the phone line). Wait 60 full seconds. Plug back in and wait 5 minutes for full reconnection to AT&T's fiber network. Pressing the reset button performs a factory reset — avoid it.

3

Use the myAT&T app to manage everything

The myAT&T app lets you pay bills, check data usage, report outages, troubleshoot equipment, upgrade plans, and chat with support — often much faster than calling. Available for iOS and Android, free to download.

quiz AT&T FAQ

Common questions answered by our research team.

add How do I get out of my AT&T contract?
AT&T wireless plans are typically month-to-month with no contract for postpaid. Device installment plans (paying for a phone over 36 months) can't be cancelled early without paying the remaining balance. Internet plans may have a 12-month agreement — check your original terms.
add What speeds does AT&T Fiber offer?
AT&T Fiber offers symmetrical (same upload and download) speeds at 300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps, and 5 Gbps depending on plan and availability. Unlike cable, AT&T Fiber upload speeds equal download speeds.
add How do I dispute a charge on my AT&T bill?
Call 1-800-288-2020 and say 'billing dispute' to reach the billing team directly. You can also dispute charges in the myAT&T app under Bill Details. AT&T must investigate billing disputes within 30 days per FCC regulations.
add Does AT&T have a price lock guarantee?
AT&T Fiber offers a Price Lock Guarantee that promises the rate won't increase as long as you maintain AT&T Fiber service. Standard AT&T wireless plans do not include a price lock and can change with 30 days' notice.
add What is AT&T FirstNet?
FirstNet is AT&T's dedicated wireless network priority service for first responders (police, fire, EMT). FirstNet users get network priority during emergencies when congestion is highest. FirstNet is also available to eligible health and government employees.
