About DYMO (Newell Brands)
DYMO was founded in 1958 and is now owned by Newell Brands, headquartered in Stamford, CT. Dymo's product line includes the LabelWriter series for PC-connected label printing, the LabelManager handheld label makers, and the DYMO Label postage scale and meter solutions. DYMO LabelWriters use direct thermal technology — no ink or toner required — making them a popular choice for address labels, file folders, and barcodes.

Fix It Yourself
Try these steps before calling. They resolve the majority of common Dymo issues.
1
Always load labels face down, shiny side up
LabelWriter labels use direct thermal technology. The label must be loaded with the thermal coating (shiny side) facing up toward the print head. Loading labels backwards produces completely blank output — a very common mistake.
2
Clean the print head for faded labels
Use a Dymo cleaning card (or a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol) to gently wipe the print head element. Dust and label adhesive buildup on the print head causes faded, streaky, or partial label printing.
3
Reinstall Dymo Connect for software issues
Fully uninstall Dymo Connect from Add/Remove Programs, restart, then download the latest version from dymo.com. Many Dymo connectivity issues on Windows 10/11 are resolved by using Dymo Connect rather than the older DYMO Label software.
shield Warranty & Coverage
Dymo LabelWriter desktop printers include a 2-year limited warranty. LabelManager handheld devices include a 1-year limited warranty. Proof of purchase required for all warranty claims.
quiz Dymo FAQ
Common questions answered by our research team.
add Why is my Dymo LabelWriter printing blank labels?
This almost always means labels are loaded backwards. DYMO labels use heat-activated thermal coating on one side only. Remove the label roll and reload it so the label surface (shiny/coated side) faces upward toward the print head.
add What label sizes does the Dymo LabelWriter 4XL support?
The LabelWriter 4XL supports labels up to 4 inches wide, including standard shipping labels (4" x 6"), large shipping labels, extra-large file folder labels, and badge labels. It's specifically designed for shipping label printing with carriers like UPS, FedEx, and USPS.
add Is Dymo compatible with Mac?
Yes, DYMO Connect is available for both Mac and Windows. Mac compatibility requires macOS 10.13 or later. The LabelWriter 550 series added USB-C support and improved Mac driver stability compared to older 450-series models.
add Can I use generic labels in my Dymo LabelWriter?
The LabelWriter 550 series uses chip-authenticated Dymo labels and may not accept third-party labels. The LabelWriter 450 series works with both genuine Dymo and compatible third-party direct thermal labels. Generic labels are widely available on Amazon.
add Does Dymo offer a warranty on label makers?
Dymo LabelWriter desktop printers include a 2-year limited warranty. Dymo LabelManager handheld devices include a 1-year limited warranty. Warranty service is handled through Dymo customer support at 1-888-257-4718.
