Fix It Yourself
Try these steps before calling. They resolve the majority of common Zebra issues.
1
Run media calibration after loading new labels
Every time you change label stock, run a calibration: hold the Feed button while powering on, release after 1 flash, then press Feed once. The printer will advance several labels to learn the gap or black mark size.
2
Adjust print darkness for clean barcodes
In the Zebra Setup Utilities (free download), increase print darkness in small increments until barcodes scan cleanly. Too light and they won't scan; too dark and bars bleed together. The ideal setting depends on your label stock.
3
Use Zebra's ZSB app for easy label design
Zebra's free ZSB app (iOS/Android/web) lets you design and print labels wirelessly from your phone or computer without ZPL programming knowledge — ideal for small business and shipping label use cases.
shield Warranty & Coverage
Zebra desktop printers include a 1-year limited warranty. Industrial ZT series printers include a 1-year warranty with optional Zebra OneCare plans extending coverage up to 5 years with repair-or-replace commitment.
quiz Zebra FAQ
Common questions answered by our research team.
add What is ZPL and do I need to know it?
ZPL (Zebra Programming Language) is the code language Zebra printers use to format labels. For most users, software like Zebra Designer, BarTender, or NiceLabel handles ZPL automatically. Only developers building custom integrations need to write ZPL directly.
add How do I factory reset my Zebra printer?
Hold the Feed button while turning the printer on. Release after 2 flashes for a network reset, or after 4 flashes for a full factory reset. The printer will reboot with all defaults restored.
add What is Zebra OneCare?
Zebra OneCare is Zebra's service and support subscription providing technical support, preventive maintenance, device repair, and replacement coverage. OneCare Essential and OneCare Select tiers are available depending on response time requirements.
add How do I clean a Zebra print head?
Power off the printer and open the top cover. Dampen a Zebra-approved cleaning swab or isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free swab and gently wipe the print head in one direction from left to right. Never use abrasives or paper towels on the print head.
add Does Zebra support direct thermal and thermal transfer?
Most ZD and ZT series printers support both direct thermal (heat-sensitive labels, no ribbon) and thermal transfer (ribbon required, more durable). Switch modes by installing or removing the ribbon and selecting the appropriate media type in settings.
